Hollywood Sex Scenes that Went Too Far

The movies are usually a fun family event.  Any time of day, and usually with just about anybody.

Of course, there are exceptions if a movie has some more…grown-up material. Because let’s face it: depending on who you’re watching a movie with, a love scene can be awkward for a variety of reasons

American Beauty

American Beauty is a great movie full of fantastic performances, but it doesn’t change the fact that a storyline involves a dad lusting after his teenage daughter’s friend.

Kevin Spacey and Mena Suvari finally have their vomit-inducing love scene. It only serves to highlight how inappropriate the whole thing was from the start.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin

The 40-Year-Old Virgin consists of one uncomfortable scene after another. It’s a bunch of boorish dudes who work at an electronics store and decide to help their nerdy colleague Andy (Steve Carell) have his first intimate experience.

They give him horrible advice, and Andy embarks on several disastrous dates, until falling in love with single mother Trish (Catherine Keener).

Showgirls

Showgirls arrived at the end of director Paul Verhoeven’s incredible run of RoboCop, Total Recall, and Basic Instinct, so he was probably looking for that same kind of jolt when he took on the world of nude dancers in Las Vegas.

Shockingly the graphic sex, most specifically the now infamous pool scene, is one of only a few positive moments. In it, Elizabeth Berkley over-the-top performance might be deemed “subtle” in this nightmare.
